Vijay S won the toss and rightly elected to field in the 18 over game against the Panthers.
Eagles bowling began with Vijay S and Siva giving away just 9 runs in the opening spell of 4 overs. Hari and Vijay V began the batting for the Panthers and played cautiously. The pitch was damp despite the summer and the ball was rising sharply.
Vijay V was caught in the slips by Vijay S giving Siva his first wicket. Nitin B bowled Suresh in his very first over the 9th of the inning. Nitin B then snared the wickets of Samir, Shekhar and Amit. Saran dismissed Hari and Ajay.
Hari and Ajay top scored for the Panthers with 18 each. Shekhar hit two brilliant boundaries off Siva's last over thereby making his figures appear ordinary but he bowled pretty well. Vijay S as expected gave away less than 4 an over.
Panthers ended with a respectable score of 96/8 in 17.5 overs.
Eagles began with Parag and Jayanth batting against the bowling of Amit and Samir. Amit hardly gave any runs in his first two overs but Samir at the other end went for 17 runs in his first two overs. Hari started his spell bowling a good line and length and at 26/2 at the end of 6 overs the Eagles seemed behind the asking rate. The scoring was slow but the 10th over of the inning bowled by Suresh produced 14 runs. At 56/3 at the end of 10 overs a tight game seemed to be on the cards. Hari and Ajay bowled 3 tight overs between them and made things difficult for the Eagles. 28 runs were required in the last 5 overs with Amit and Samir being in a position to share 4 of those overs.
Wickets kept falling at one end with Parag holding one end up. Amit picked up a wicket in the 14th and Samir followed with one in the 15th and two more in the 17th. 19 runs were required with Amit bowling the 16th and 13 with Samir bowling the 17th. Three boundaries were hit on the last three balls of the 17th over giving the Eagles a 1 wicket victory with an over to spare.
Parag fininshed unbeaten on 65 (62b, 8*4, 1*6). It was a good game with both the Panthers and Eagles charged up as they usually do in internal games.
As Amit had predicted the winning team got no beer. Eagles were left to get their own beer after the game :-)
