Game 2 against SKings was once again played at Spring Canyon Ground (Small). Ram and Satish opened the inning for SDKings and made the best of loose bowling at the start of the inning. Both were run-out after having made very good contributions of 22 by Ram (20b, 3*4) and 38 by Satish (33b, 5*4). Vilas M (4-0-19-2) and Naveen (4-0-18-1) were the only bowlers with respectable figures of less than run a ball. SDKings reached a healthy score of 133/9 in 20 overs.
In reply, dismal batting by us saw the game end in 15.1 overs and a huge deficit of 55 runs. The procession of batsmen was continuous and a score of 78/10 was only made possible by some hitting in the low order.

Match 1 against SDKings on 09252010
Samir and Amit opened the inning in the 20 over game played at Spring Canyon Ground (Small) against SDKings.
An excellent inning of 51 (56b, 5*4, 1*6) by Samir with contribution of 24 (16b, 4*4) from Hari R and 18 (22b, 1*4) from Naveen S took the score to 143/6 in 20 overs.
In reply SDKings scored 109/10 in 18.33 overs. Srinivas N struck with 3 wickets in over number 18 to make the game a no contest. Earlier Boopathi 35 (25b, 4*4, 1*6) and Sara 23 (35b, 3*4) had turned things around when faced with a situation of 90 odd runs being needed in the last 10 overs. When Srinivas began bowling over no 18, 35 runs were needed in the final 3 overs. The game was quickly over as the final four wickets fell in a space of 7 balls.

Match 18 against Doyle Devils on 08/28/2010
The match against Doyle Devils was played at Cypress Canyon Ground (Small). We had to borrow four players from two different teams to make up a playing eleven.
Doyle Devils won the toss and elected to field first. Manish and Gopal opened up the inning against Ashwin and Anand. The bowling to begin with was good with only a few extras being scored in the first four overs. Manish hit a boundary over point to begin scoring of the bat. Naman played a good knock of 25 runs (3*4, 1*2) and stood on the crease almost until over number 16. The three hits on the leg side were in the region of mid-wicket and square leg. Pavel scored a brisk 18 with two straight sixes hit of consecutive balls off the bowling of Vipul. Later on he was kept quiet with Anand and Ravi bowling a tight line and length.
Mid-way into the inning we were at 40/3 but only managed another 41 runs for the loss of 6 additional wickets in the second half. A score of 81/9 seemed low on the wicket at Cypress Canyon Ground. Doyle Devils bowled well throughout the inning conceding four boundaries and two sixes amidst a high number of extras. The fielding was good throughout with a couple of hard chances being spilled. Sampath held an excellent running catch square on the leg side to deny Pavel a boundary (it could have been another six).

Tushnim was run-out being asked to go for a non-existent second on a fielding lapse. We did pick up wickets at regular intervals at the top. A dropped catch or two, quite a few wides, byes saw the Doyle Devils go into the break at 45/5. Venkat and Ashwin held fort, played their strokes over the infield to stop the slide while batting. Doyle Devils moved to a comfortable victory in the 17th over with an all-round performance on the field. We were left to think over catching lapses, lack of aggression when faced with tight bowling, lack of support in the field amidst good bowling etc.
Venkat hit a few good hits to long-on or the extra cover/mid-off area to negate the possibility of a collapse in the second half of the second inning. Venkat made most of the lives he was offered, waiting for loose balls and thus made up for quiet periods. Ashiwn finished the game with two consecutive fours when seven were needed for a win with four overs to go.

Match 11 against Real Panthers on 08212010
The team was back to practicing after a period of irregular cricketing activity. The match with Real Panthers was played on August 21st at Cypress Canyon Ground. Although we had arranged a team to 12, Manish, Aravind and Srinivas K dropped out or did not show up.
The game began close to 9am. We won the toss and were forced to bat due to just about half the players being around at the time of the toss.
The grass at Cypress Canyon was thick akin to the one at Miramar College Ground. The top half collapsed within the first 6 overs with Vijay S, Gopal, Naman, Umesh and Parag losing their wickets in different ways. It was clear that the batsmen were short on match practice and rusty. Half way into the inning we had reached 52/6 and an early closure seemed a high probability.
Hari R has been playing regularly and was the only one confident on our side. His demeanor was one of mixed caution and aggression. None of the bowlers troubled him while at the crease. A face savings inning (score unknown ?) studded with about 5-7 boundaries helped the team get to 110/10 in 20 overs. Hari remained unbeaten at the end of the inning with one hard chance being dropped down the leg side by keeper Anil N. Hari dispatched a few for boundaries in the region from long-leg to long on and one in the cover point region. Satish M provided good support to Hari in the second half of the inning. Helped by a healthy number of extras throughout the inning and the occasional boundary the score moved along despite the collapse at thre top.
In reply Real Panthers opened with Anil and Naveen. Our bowlers bowled tightly at the start of the inning. Helped by two dropped catches the openers put on a 52 run opening partnership before Naveen was held in the slips by Srinivas N. Anil N continued to bat with confidence despite the asking rate increasing in the second half. With 44 needed in 36 balls, Vilas M gave Hari the charge and hit three boundaries in over number 15. This changed the match equation in favor of Real Panthers. Until then a victory by our side looked probable discounting the very few wickets we had secured until then. At the end of over 19, Real Panthers had all but wiped out the target. With 5 wickets in hand and 2 runs to get in the final over the match was all but pocketed by Real Panthers. Gopal was able to make the match last for four additional balls but in the end we could not stop Real Panthers from winning the game.
Anil (47 in 59b, 2*4, 1*6), Naveen (21 in 22b, 3*4), Vilas (15 in 13b, 3*4) took the side to victory with 2 balls and 5 wickets to spare.
Real Panthers were without their complete side and most of us were rusty after a period of hiatus. Despite that it was a good fight considering the collapse at the top and the couple of dropped catches. The slim bowling attack did well to keep us in the game until the final over.
Great job Hari, the confidence while batting on this day was supreme. Amit ended up as the most economical bowler on our side with figures of 4-0-18-1.

Match 17 against Doyle Devils on 10/18/2009 (1 of 3)
The series against Doyle Devils began with game 1 being played at Spring Canyon Ground (Small). Unfortunately, Vijay S lost the toss and it was no surprise that we were asked to bat first. The wicket in the area close to the concrete pathway, however is good for batting be it the first or second inning.
Parag and Shekhar opened the inning. A boundary and a couple of twos by Parag in the first over
resulted in a good start. Parag (batting with a runner was run-out in over number three) when the two runners set out on a non-existent run. Shekhar and Suresh almost repeated the same incident but fortunately the keeper Kapil, struck the stumps but let the ball go by before the stumps were hit. At the 10 over stage we were well placed at 59/2 with Suresh and Hari at the crease. Shekhar was out caught after having scored 15 (23b, 2*4).
After the break, Suresh launched one of his huge hits towards long on, where Ravi M could not hold on, and even worse let the ball go over the ropes for a six. Hari struck a few boundaries and the score kept moving along at a air pace. Suresh lost his wicket in a couple of balls after hitting the six, but by then had scored 21 (28b, 1*4, 1*6). At 93/3, in 13 overs a score in the range of 135-145 was a possibility. Ibrar, Vijay S were dismissed in quick succession. Overs 15 to 17 produced only 11 runs. Hari was caught at long-off with three overs to go. Hari scored a well made 23 (24b, 2*4, 1*3) despite being struck on the chest by a beamer bowled by Ravi M. Hari was all set to launch in the final 3 overs with most top order bowlers having completed their quota but was dismissed at the wrong time.
We finished with 127/9 in 20 overs which was a good score to defend on that wicket.
Tushnim and Narayan had other ideas. Kapil was dismissed early in the inning for a duck. The two batsmen put on a partnership between 80 and 85 runs with both scoring 38 each. the partnership brought them in sight of victory. All our bowlers tried their best but every trick in their sleeve was thwarted by these two batsmen at the crease. Tushnim was run-out by Parag (as a catch was dropped off Rosie) and Narayan was bowled by Siva.
This brought two new batsmen at the crease and before DD realized it, the asking rate soared high. In the final three overs 31 runs were required with two of them being dismissed without troubling the scorers much.
At this time, Hari was hit by nerves. Until then Hari had done exceedingly well in two overs with a wicket, a catch that dropped short of slips and hardly any runs being conceded. A few wide balls, a few short on the leg side and a six over long-off on an over pitched ball in over number 17, resulted in 14 runs being conceded. This meant DD had to score 17 runs in two overs and 5 wickets in hand. The game was then interrupted at 12:20 with the baseball team set to start their game at 12:30 pm.
The game was abandoned. A look at D/L chart, indicated that the game was a tie. DD had to score 112/5 runs in 18 overs for a win but finished with 111/5. With an additional wicket they would have had to score 113 runs for a win. We could have conceded one less run and would still have won.
We need to end the game by noon, else we risk a premature end was we had in this game. Whether players want to rectify their acts in terms of timeliness, is for them to decide. We know all too well what the collective result will be despite such occurrences .....

Match 16 against SDCricInfo/Mavericks on 10/10/2009 (1 of 3)
The first game of the series was played at Spring Canyon Ground (Small). Samir won the toss and elected to field first.
We did a fantastic job at bowling by dismissing the Mavericks for a meagre 74 in 17 overs. Not a single batsman from the Mavericks crossed 10 runs. Vijay S picked up 3 wickets for a mere 14 runs. Hari picked two wickets and Sam hardly conceeded any runs for a wicket. Suresh bowled Sushmit who had struck two boundaries in his short stay at the crease. Samir restricted the scoring towards the end with wickets having been taken regularly through the inning. Rahul B picked up two catches behind the wicket and also featured in a coupe of run-out dismissals. We did drop a simple and another moderate catch and also gave away a few byes. Every other act on the field was impeccable with just five boundaries being conceeded.
In reply Santosh H and Manish opened aggressively with Rajendra being struck for a boundary by each of the openers in over number two. The highlight of our inning while batting was the knock by Sam. Before being run-out when called for a second, Sam had scored 22 runs in just 17 balls. The inning had a boundary to square leg and a six on a full toss behind square on the leg side. Naman (11 in 15b, 1*4) and Hari (6 in 5b, 1*4) were the batsmen to remain unbeaten when the target was reached with 4 wickets and 30 balls to spare.
It was a convincing win and was done in a manner "howie" usually do it when not in the ocassional "bad team form". Batsmen who do not bat regularly at the top got an opportunity to go up the order. No player would have had any complaints over the proceedings of the day.
Well done, let's beat the Mavericks in Game 2 and register a series win, having lost one against the Strikers.

Having beaten the Strikers comprehensively in Game 2, this game was of utmost significance. The game was played at Cypress Canyon Ground (Big) in one corner of the ground restricting runs behind the wicket. Strikers won the toss and appropriately elected to bat.
We scored 94/8 in 20 overs with quite a few batsmen falling to loose deliveries. Strikers were missing a few regular bowlers but the replacements were good enough to fill in.
In reply Strikers opened with Siva and Gopal. Amit and Srinivas bowled a few tight overs at the start. Over number 5 however, yielded two boundaries to the Strikers. Gopal hit a couple of loose deliveries to mid-wicket and square leg respectively thereby relieving the tension for the Strikers. The next five overs continued to yield runs with just a couple of wickets falling. At the 10 over stage Strikers were placed at about 59/2 and seemed in complete control.
Our fielding department then fought back to peg the scoring by restrictive bowling that also produced wickets with fair regularity. The equation boiled down to 3 runs needed in the final over and two wickets in hand for the Strikers.
